Kano governor defies court, presents Letter of Reinstatement to Emir Sanusi

Kano state governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf on Friday, presented the letter of reinstatement to 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II.

In a ceremony at the state government house, the governor presented the letter to Sanusi while urging him to continue the good job he was doing for the good of Kano people.

Yusuf said; “We return Sanusi out of conviction that he was victimized in 2019. We also return him as the rightful Emir of Kano, to continue the good job he was doing for the good of Kano People.”

Commenting on the legislative process that led to Sanusi’s reinstatement, the governor insisted; “Once a Bill is signed into law, it has become law and nobody can change that.

“Your reappointment was guided by the collective belief and judgement of your competency, dedication and zeal for the development of Kano State and it’s environs.

“As you ascend the throne of the Kano Emirate of Kano State, you should be guided in your conducts by the teachings of Islam which you are known for”.

Meanwhile, governor Yusuf’s action is in defiance of a Federal High Court sitting in Kano which ordered him not to reinstate Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II pending the determination of a substantive suit filed.

Justice A.M. Liman granted an ex-parte order stopping the planned reinstatement as well as the abolishment of four emirates: Bichi, Gaya, Karaye, and Rano.

Recall that the Kano State House of Assembly on Thursday, passed a bill to immediately reinstate Sanusi who was deposed by the former governor Abdullahi Ganduje.

The court directed all parties involved to maintain status quo ante pending the determination of the suit filed by Sarkin Dawaki Babba and Aminu Babba-Dan’Agundi.
