Judge orders man to sweep court for 3 weeks for stealing woman’s purse

A Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court, has ordered a convicted thief, Garba Aliyu to sweep the court premises for three weeks for stealing a woman’s purse.

Police prosecutor, Inspector Chidi Leo informed the court on Thursday that the defendant trespassed into the shop of one Adanna Ebuka pretending to buy a loaf of bread in Kaduna.

Leo said that the convict went into the complainant’s shop and stole her purse, adding that it was however, recovered after police investigation. The 30-year-old suspect pleaded guilty to theft, and was convicted and sentenced accordingly.

The Magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel said the convict’s guilty plea had saved the court time, as the punishment would have been more severe if he had pleaded not guilty.

Emmanuel said the court took into consideration the fact that the convict was a first-time offender. He advised the convict to desist from such acts in the future, stressing that the court frowned at the offence.
