Insecurity: FG has approved procurement of digital tracking tools – Wike

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu led federal government has approved the emergency procurement of digital tracking tools to mitigate rising kidnapping and insecurity.

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike disclosed this at a media briefing in Abuja on Monday, January 22.

He disclosed that facilities to track criminals are unavailable in FCTA except at the Police Headquarters and Office of the National Security Adviser.

Wike said: “So many facilities were not provided. Vehicles for the security agencies are not there. You cannot believe that equipment to track criminals is not there. When anything happens, they return to the Office of the National Security Adviser or the Force Headquarters. That is not the way it is supposed to be.

“Again, before we came on board, the police had said that they had requested the procurement of a certain number of motorcycles where vehicles cannot get to the remote and mountainous areas. Unfortunately, they were not provided, but we will do that now.

“Security is not just this equipment. You also have to motivate the personnel. I don’t want to discuss the strategies because we are discussing security now.”
