I’m the only artiste who stops people from spraying me money – Seun Kuti

Seun Kuti has claimed to be the only musician in Nigeria who stops people from spraying him money in whatever currency whenever he is performing.

The Afrobeats singer said a lot of artistes, especially Fuji musicians praise people in melodies during their performances just so that they can be sprayed.

Kuti made the claims in a video posted on Instagram as he weighed in on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC’s crackdown on those abusing the naira.

He said; “I don’t even like to be sprayed. I’m the only artiste that stops people from spraying me. Even my dad, the legendary Fela didn’t prevent people from spraying him but he demanded the denominations he wanted to be sprayed.

“Nobody wey Sunny Ade never sing for so he can be sprayed. Everybody name. KWAM 1 … eh eh. It is the politicians that made spraying a standard behaviour.”

Content creator, Timi Agbaje, has given a breakdown explanation as to why crossdresser, Bobrisky was jailed but socialite, Cubana Chief Priest got bail despite being charged with the same crime.

Last week, a Federal High Court in Lagos state sentenced Bobrisky to six months in prison without the option of fine, after he pleaded guilty to abusing the naira.

However, today, Wednesday April 17, the same court granted Cubana Chief Priest bail in the sum of N10 million after he pleaded not guilty to naira abuse.

Timi Agbaje, who holds a degree in Law said the reaso for the court’s different verdicts was that Bobrisky had pleaded guilty whereas Cubana Chief Priest hadn’t.

According to him, in Bobrisky’s case, two likely options were possible as a result of his plea, which was either he pays a fine or get jailed.

But Cubana Chief Priest on the other hand was granted bail, because under the law after he pleaded not guilty, no case exists, until the EFCC are able to provide beyond reasonable doubt that he abuse the Nigerian currency.

Timi Agbaje further said it can be argued by the defence counsel that the money being sprayed in the video which EFCC possesses wasn’t real.
