I’m the leader of Afrobeats worldwide – Davido

Nigerian singer, songwriter and music executive, David Adeleke known by his stage name, Davido has boasted that is the leader of Afrobeats globally.

He made the confident statement during a recent interview with Billboard’s Nadine Graham, who called him the leader of the genre in the United States.

Davido it will grow on you

But Davido corrected the interviewer and said that he doesn’t just lead in the United States but he is leading “everywhere.”

The DMW boss made it known that as global leader of Afrobeats, he wants people to look forward to “Just good music. And it’s craazy, because people in jail have heard my music.”

Speaking further, Davido also revealed his favorite collaboration is ‘2 AM’ with Casanova and Tory Lanez because the record bridged Canadian, Nigerian and American cultures.

This is coming after his colleague, Wizkid distanced himself from Afrobeats and stirred debate on social media platforms.

CorrectNG reported earlier that Ayodeji Balogun, the singer professionally known as Wizkid, has clarified that he is not an Afrobeats artiste, and wants the public to not categorise him as such.

The singer stated this on Friday, 15th of March while announcing that his next album was complete and ready to be released.

Wizkid warned fans not to expect an old version or Afrobeats sound on the album which will be titled Morayo, after his late mother.

In a series of rant posts, he urged fans who are looking forward to hearing the old Wizkid, to not bother downloading his new project and delete him from their playlist.

Furthermore, the ‘Fever’ crooner warned bloggers and other media outfits not to post his album or report details about it when he finally releases Morayo.

He wrote; “Album done! See you soon b*tches! And abeg if you like Pakurumo Wizkid, don’t download this new album. In fact, delete me from your playlist and your life!

“If you like Afrobeats, don’t download my album. I’m not a f*cking Afrobeats artiste. I am not Afro anything.”
