The notorious Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) unit of the Nigeria Police which was disbanded last year, has been revived.
Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba gave the directive for SARS to be brought back after it was disbanded by former IG Mohammed Adamu following the #EndSARS protests.
The unit was scrapped after series of allegations of brutality, extrajudicial killings, and human rights abuses.
According to SaharaReporters, the IGP released new rules of engagement on the operation of SARS officers.
In a statement on Thursday, the Baba said that the anti-robbery unit has been reformed.
Part of the new terms and conditions include that no SARS personnel is allowed to interface in any civil matter, neither are they allowed to interfere in cybercrime operations or arrest suspected fraudsters.
The Police boss, however, stated clearly that SARS officers are strictly for armed robbery and kidnapping cases.
