Nigerian actor turned politician, Desmond Elliot has said that he was never against the existence or freedom of social media.
The Lagos lawmaker who was a guest on a TVC breakfast show, said that his comment about social media regulation was misunderstood.
Recall that last year, a video captured the moment Elliot, who represents Surulere constituency in Lagos, called for social media regulation. He stressed the need to do something about social media before it ruins Nigeria.
“In the next five years, there will be no Nigeria if we don’t act now”, he said in the video.
However, in his interview on TVC, the politician said he was never against the influx of social media, rather, he raised concerns over defamatory comments online which were likely to ruin someone’s life without any consequences for the person responsible.
