I want to play for a bigger club – Nwabali says ahead of likely Chippa Utd exit

Super Eagles goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali, has given a big hint on what he wants for himself as he is believed to leave Chippa United this summer.

Nwabali has been a subject of transfer speculation following his impressive performance for his country at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON.

He also made two penalty saves in the shoot-out against South Africa in the quarterfinals. This season, Nwabali has kept 11 clean sheets for Chippa United in 26 appearances.

In light of his impressive performances, Saudi club, El-Ettifaq, Sky Bet Championship side, Queens Park Rangers and Kaizer Chiefs are among the clubs reportedly interested in the shot stopper.

Following the final game of the season – a 2-0 defeat to Orlando Pirate – Nwabali dropped a hint on his future.

“Well, everyone would love to leave because when you are in some position, you need to grow. Like everyone in my position, I would like to grow more.

I’m talking about clubs higher than this [Chippa United] because I have been giving my all to my club this season. I just wish to have another challenge at some other place,” Nwabali said.

Co-head coach of South Africa’s Chippa United, Thabo September has admitted that Nigerian goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali could leave the club this summer.

He expressed uncertainty with Nwabali’s future at the club in a chat with SABC Sport, noting that he can’t guarantee the 27-year-old will remain with the Chilli Boys beyond this summer.

“It’s not the right word to use, but of course I think there’s a high possibility of losing him. I don’t think it’s a fear [to lose him], that’s what the club is about,” September said.
