I want Afrobeats to be the world’s greatest genre – Ayra Starr

Ace Nigerian singer, Oyinkansola Aderibigbe also known as Ayra Starr has revealed that she wishes for Afrobeats to become the biggest genre in the world.

This is also as the 21-year-old Grammy nominee expressed the desire to be one of the music genre’s leading artistes.

Speaking in a recent interview with Cosmopolitan UK, she said; “My hope for Afrobeats is for it to be the biggest genre in the world. Because it deserves to be.Other genres of music are great, but there’s nothing like Afrobeat.

“Even the sad music makes you feel good. So, I want Afrobeats to be the biggest genre in the world and I would love to be one of the leading artistes.”

Nigerian singer, songwriter and music executive, David Adeleke known by his stage name, Davido has boasted that is the leader of Afrobeats globally.

He made the confident statement during a recent interview with Billboard’s Nadine Graham, who called him the leader of the genre in the United States.

But Davido corrected the interviewer and said that he doesn’t just lead in the United States but he is leading “everywhere.”

The DMW boss made it known that as global leader of Afrobeats, he wants people to look forward to “Just good music. And it’s cr@zy, because people in jail have heard my music.”

Speaking further, Davido also revealed his favorite collaboration is ‘2 AM’ with Casanova and Tory Lanez because the record bridged Canadian, Nigerian and American cultures.

This is coming after his colleague, Wizkid distanced himself from Afrobeats and said people should not categorise him in the genre.
