I used to sell weed, alcohol at a brothel – Gospel artiste, Victor Thompson

Nigerian Gospel singer and songwriter, Victor Thompson revealed how he used to sell drugs and alcohol to sex workers at a brothel as a means of survival.

The ‘This Year’ hitmaker said he lost both his parents when he was around 12 years old and as such had to engage in odd jobs while growing up.

Thompson recently had a chat with media personality, Chude Jideonwo, wherein recalled that he hawked sachet water during the day and sold alcohol, cigarettes and marijuana (weed) to sex workers at night.

The singer who also worked as a vulcanizer, and did some shoe-making, recounted how his father died when he was 10 and his aunts kicked him and his mother out of their family home.

According to him, a carpenter took pity on them and took them to an uncompleted building in an empty land, where they were sleeping until his mom could no longer bear the suffering and passed on.

Thompson said; “At a time, I was selling alcohol, weed, cigarettes, and hawking pure water. In the morning and afternoon time, I did vulcanizing, shoe-making and hawked pure water but at night go back to my shop which was close to a brothel to sell alcohol, weed, and cigarettes. Most of my customers were the prostitvtes.

“I lost my parents when I was between 12 and 14. My dad passed first, I think I was 10 or thereabout. When my dad died, my aunties threw us out of our dad’s house.

“We didn’t have a place to sleep. God so good, a carpenter was so kind and gave us an empty land to sleep. It’s a bush so at night, I would sneak my mum in, so that was how we lived for years. But she couldn’t cope then she passed.”
