I used to be stopped from performing in Nigeria because of my skimpy outfits – Tiwa

Award winning music star, Tiwa has recalled a time she was prevented from performing at events when she returned to Nigeria from the United Kingdom.

The songstress who left the United Kingdom to pursue her musical career in her home country, said organisers were barring her from mounting the stage at concerts because her outfit was “too risqué.”

Tiwa made this known in an interview with BET while recounting how some of her earlier music videos were not aired because they were considered indecent.

The ‘All Over’ hitmaker opined that the reason behind such action was cultural, but she still maintained her stubbornness and wore more revealing outfits.

According to Tiwa, her actions attracted female fans to her as they loved her style and saw it as a source of inspiration to live how they want.

After consistently dressing in skimpy outfit, the decision makers were forced to start putting Tiwa on shows and playing her music videos on TV stations because there was a growing demand.

In her words; “When I first moved back, I would turn up at a show and they would say I can’t perform because my outfit was too risqué.

“It was a cultural issue. Even some of my first music videos were not played on the television because they were considered indecent. I wasn’t even wearing bikinis. Despite the setbacks, I was still stubborn. My dresses were getting more revealing. It was just getting worse. They were bashing me online.

“It was funny because the females were secretly falling in love with me and my style. They couldn’t deny. My fanbase, my followers, was growing. So they had to put me on shows and play my music because there was a demand for it.”
