I doubted Wizkid, Burna Boy when they told me that they’d be superstars – Ice Prince

Popular Nigerian rapper, Ice Prince has said that Afrobeats maestros, Ayodeji Balogun aka Wizkid and Damini ”Burna Boy” Ogulu foresaw their musical accomplishments many years ago.

The 36-year-old Hip Hop star revealed that 10 years ago, Wizkid told him he was going to achieve everything he has now achieved musically, but he (Ice Prince) was skeptical.

According to Ice Prince, he is one of those who watched the likes of Wizzy and Burna Boy grow in the domestic and international scene.

The multi-award-winning rapper made the revelation when he featured in the latest episode of the Afrobeats Podcast hosted by UK-based media personality, Adesope Olajide, aka Shopsydoo.

He said; “When I see what afrobeats is achieving right now, it’s just like a dream come true. And not everybody will do it at the same time. But with God and with consistency, we all can do it.

“I remember Wiz [kid] telling me he was going to do all these things like 10 years ago. And at that time, I could have been looking at him like, Nah, you’re crazy. But look, it actually played out to be what it is.

“I have seen Burna Boy tell me, Yo, I’m gonna do this. I’m gonna do that. And at that time, it was prophesying, not even sure how it was going to happen.

“So, to see it happening now, it was like wow, wow, wow! Dreams do actually come true. I’m super proud of these guys. I’m one of those people that can tell you I watched these guys grow up.”

Twitter Influencer, Daniel Regha said Grammy-winning singer, Damini Ogulu aka Burna Boy should not be put in the same category with Olamide, Wizkid and Davido.

The controversial critic said Burna Boy is still an upcomer when compared to the three abovementioned artistes.

Regha made the statement while featuring on Doyin’s Corner hosted by Big Brother Naija star, Doyin David, noting that when OBO, Baddo and Machala were the hottest artistes on the scene, Burna was nowhere to be found.

He further said Olamide has more hit songs than most of them which is why he finds it funny when people mention Burna’s name before the YBNL founder.

Daniel Regha said there is a set for every musician in the industry and there are people who started buzzing at about the same time as the ‘Odogwu’, it just so happens that he became more successful.

The popular Twitter user further explained that the same way one would not put Tubaba in the same list with Wizkid and Davido, is also how the Last Last crooner is not in the same set as them.

Speaking on how big Burna is, Regha accredited it to streaming era, saying that if the popular singers from the past had come out now that streaming platforms exist, most of their songs would be hits.

He said; “Burna is still an upcomer compared to Wizkid, Davido and Olamide. When those artistes were popping, Burna was nowhere to be found…Burna is mostly popping now because he is in the streaming era.”
