I don’t write my songs, they’re all freestyles – Shallipopi

Rising Nigerian Afrobeats and Hip Hop artiste, Crown Uzama, professionally known as Shallipopi, has revealed that all his songs are freestyles.

The 23-year-old TikTok phenomenon said that he does not write music and everything he releases is straight from his head, including hit songs like Elon Musk and Obapluto.

Shallipopi made the revelation in a recent interview with OAP Dotun on Cool 96.9 FM, adding that even the ones that look written are all freestyles.

The singer also revealed that he recorded, produced and mastered all the tracks on his Planet Pluto EP in just two hours.

He noted that he takes his music serious, but also said that the reason he writes is because the music would sound too professional.

Speaking further about social media media comments, he said he does not get offended by criticism or attacks and there are many posts from fans that he loves.

Nigerian singer-songwriter, Ahmedu Augustine, better known as Blackface recently alleged that Afrobeats sensation, Ahmed Ololade aka Asake, copied his song without permission.

The former member of the defunct music group, Plantashun Boiz, also accused two of the industry heavyweights, Wizkid and Burna Boy of intellectual property theft.

He made the allegation during a recent interview with Naija FM where he said Asake sampled his song ‘Ikebe Supa’ on the hit single ‘Joha’.

Blackface said the song was one of the tracks off his 2022 debut album ‘Joha’. He noted that he feels hurt about the constant unauthorized use of his songs by Afrobeats stars. The dancehall star likened the art to his child, saying the unauthorized use of his music is similar to child molestation.

He said; “Ginger’ by Wizkid and Burna Boy is a sample of my track ‘Twist & Turn’; the rhythms, the beat, how the melody starts and ends. Na only the verses dem change. Asake’s ‘Joha’ is a sample of my song ‘Ikebe Supa.’ I dey inspire them”.

Blackface added that he is not against young artistes sampling his songs, but the fact that they do not approach him before using his songs is wrong.
