I could not sleep after getting my first N1million in cash – Timi Dakolo
Award-winning Nigerian singer, Timi Dakolo has revealed that the first N1 million he got was a gift from a fan.
The ‘Love Song’ crooner said he lost sleep after the person gave him one million naira cash at a time he had never seen N10,000.
Dakolo made the revelation in an interview with media personality, Chude Jideonwo, where he revealed that the “good Samaritan” had seen him on television while he was contesting in the inaugural Idols West Africa in 2007.
Dakolo said; “There was somebody that gave me N1m from nowhere. I had never seen N10,000 before. The money I used to have then was always N1,300, N800, N1,200, and N520. And somebody gave me N1m cash. He came to the hotel and gave me N1m. He said he doesn’t watch TV but he saw me on TV and he felt he should give me N1m.
“I saw N1m, I could not sleep. I was looking at the money. I said, ‘This money will change.’ I was speaking English that day. Me that used to disturb the whole place, I was quiet [sic]. I caught myself speaking good English.”

Ace Nigerian singer, David Adeleke aka Davido has disclosed that he bagged a multimillion-naira ambassadorial deal when he was 17 years old.
Speaking during a recent interview, he said that he had just two songs when a telecommunication firm gave him an endorsement deal worth N20 million.
The ‘Omo Baba Olowo’ said it was a big deal for his family as none of them had never seen that kind of money.
Davido said: “I remember when MTN, a telecommunication company came and they were like, they want to do endorsement, but then he (dad) was like, how much, and I said 20 million. I was 17. Nobody has seen that kind of money.
“Wow, this is from Music, and it’s off like two songs, of course. I’m like, ‘Daddy, see, we can do this’. He looking at it, he built me a studio and gave me some money to run my stuff and did my first album, and it came out really really successful.”
