A housekeeper, Blessing Ochong, has been arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing her employer’s jewelery.
NAN reports that she was charged to court after being arrested for stealing personal jewelry worth N1.6million.
According to the prosecution counsel, Inspector Glory Goodday, the suspect, who resides at 56 Igbehinadu St., Bolade Oshodi, committed the offence on August 8 at 3, Irepodun St., Oke-Ira, Ogba, Lagos.
The 27-year-old househelp was charged with theft.
Goodday told the court that the gold jewellery and a wedding ring worth N1.6 million (N1,600,000) belonging to the complainant, Mrs Zainab Okwuosa, went missing after the Ochong finished cleaning her room.
The case was reported at the police station, and the defendant security personnel arrested her.
The prosecution further said the offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
But the defendant pleaded not guilty.
The Magistrate, Mr M. A Adegbaye, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Adegbaye adjourned the case until October 12.
In similar news a young Nigerian lady was arrested after she allegedly stole gold jewelry from a store and tried to escape.
According to reports, she stole jewelry worth N1.5 million and swallowed it with the intention of leaving the store because she did not find what she liked.
However, she was nabbed by the shop attendants and owner who then proceeded to embarrass her on camera.
A video making the rounds online shows the suspect pleading with the shop owner not to show her face in the footage.
She did not want to be exposed on social media because of the fear and shame of being disgraced.
