The governor of Benue state, Samuel Ortom abruptly stopped his convoy today to effect an arrest on cows and their herders.
Recall that the state passed a bill last year banning open grazing in the state. The law was passed due to constant clashes between herdsmen and farmers in the state which had led to the death of hundreds.
The state has administered the law effectively since it was enacted and the governor took no exceptions when he saw some herders breaking it. He suspended his trip and ordered their arrest.
