Four teens charged to court over alleged unlawful gathering in Ibadan

Four teenagers have been arraigned at Iyaganku Family Court in Ibadan, Oyo state for alleged unlawful gathering and constituting public nuisance.

Oyo state police dragged the defendants, all aged between 16 and 17, before Magistrate, Mrs O.O. Ogunkanmi on Friday, January 5 after arresting them.

The four accused namely; Kehinde Sodiq, 17, Akande Azeez, 16, Mubarak Fakorede, 17, and Basit Odekunle, 16, are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and unlawful gathering.

Police Prosecutor, Inspector Gbemisola Adedeji told the court that they were arrested for constituting nuisance at White House, Labo area of Ibadan on December 30, 2023 at 1:00 am.

She said that the offences committed by the teenagers are in contravention of sections 64 (a) and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Oyo State, 2000. The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

In her ruling, the Magistrate granted the defendants bail in the sum of N100, 000 each, with two sureties each in like sum.

Ogunkanmi said one of the sureties must be a parent or guardian of each of the defendants and must be responsible. She, thereafter, adjourned the matter till March 17.
