Popular Afrobeats singer, Seun Kuti has been released on bail, from the detention of the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, Lagos.

He regained his freedom on Tuesday night, May 23.

Seun’s attorney, Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika, SAN, confirmed the development on Tuesday to The Punch.

“Yes, Ṣeun Kuti was released minutes ago,” he said.

Meanwhile, CorrectNG reported that protesters stormed Yaba magistrate’s court earlier on Tuesday, to challenge the continued detention of Seun Kuti.

The group under the auspices of Youth Rights Campaign (YRC), African Action Congress (AAC), Movement for African Emancipation (MAE), Pan-African Consciousness Renaissance (PACOR), Workers and Youth Solidarity Network (WYSN), Movement of the People (MOP) and allies outside the court and gave the Lagos police command a 24-hour ultimatum for the immediate release of the musician.

Despite meeting the requirements for his bail, the police have refused to release Seun.

The demonstrators , some of whom wore Batman and superman costumes, displayed placards with inscriptions such as: “#FreeSeunKutiCampaign,” “End Police Brutality,” “Independent Judiciary: Is it really independent”.

Seun’s appearance in court originally scheduled for May 23, was delayed as the presiding Magistrate Justice was absent, without an official explanation.
