The Kano state police command have arrested a suspected fake medical doctor, Chidera Ugwu, who specializes in aborting unwanted pregnancy.
Police spokesman in the state, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa said the command received a complaint on December 20, 2023 that the 24-year-old man gave a pregnant 19-year-old girl injection that led to her death.
According to him, the person who impregnated the girl conspired with the quack, Ugwu to do an abortion for her in Nura Balarabe, Tofa Local Government Area of the state..
Kiyawa said; “On 20/12/2023 at about 1030hrs, the police received complaint from one Nura Balarabe of Tofa LGA Kano that one Ukasha Muhammed of Langel Village Tofa LGA Kano impregnated his 19-year-old sister and conspired with Chidera Ugwu and injected her to death.”
He said the suspects administered injections and drugs to the girl with intent to cause miscarriage which resulted in her death.
“The suspects were arrested and confessed to the crime. Investigations revealed that the said Chidera Ugwu is a fake doctor and has allegedly been administering fatal injections to pregnant women, leading to tragic consequences,” the PPRO added.

It may be recalled that the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) denied the yet-to-be named nurse who treated late musician, Ilerioluwa Olademeji Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.
She was said to have given the 27-year-old rapper an injection before his death which happened under controversial circumstances.
The association, in a press statement by its State Secretary, Toba Odumosu, described the purported nurse as a “quack” and noted that she is not a registered health practitioner.
The statement read partly: “The National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), Lagos State Council, expresses its deepest condolences to the family and associates of the late musician, llerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, during this difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers are with them as we mourn his tragic passing.
We fully support the ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death and urge the relevant authorities to leave no stone unturned in the pursuit of justice for him. However, we must stress the importance of professionalism in reporting and conducting this investigation.”
