A Federal High Court in Lagos state, has sentenced famous transvestite, Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky, to six months in jail.

The socialite was convicted and sentenced on Friday, April 12 without the option of fine. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission had arraigned him on four counts of naira abuse and money laundering.

The court, earlier dismissed the money laundering charges but convicted Bobrisky for Naira Abuse after he confessed to the crime.

Recall that Bobrisky previously appeared before Justice Abimbola Awogboro over allegations of abusing and mutilating Naira notes.

The court had fixed April 12 as the date for sentencing after Bobrisky pleaded guilty to a four-count charge of tampering with N490,000 (Four Hundred and Ninety Thousand Naira).

Justice Awogboro held that the judgement will serve as a deterrence to others who are fond of abusing and mutilating the Nigerian currency.

The Judge, however, ordered that the jail term commences on March 24, 2024, the day of Bobrisky’s arrest by the anti-graft agency.
