EFCC arrests Babangida over N5bn Fraud



The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested and detained the former governor of Niger State, Aliyu Babangida, over an alleged 5 billion Naira fraud during his administration.

The spokesman for the EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren, told news men in Abuja: “We invited former Governor Aliyu Babangida to our office on Tuesday and he has been in our custody since then.”

“He was invited following an investigation into a scam involving about N5billion.”

The current governor of the state, Abubakar Bello and members of the Niger state House of Assembly called for a probe of Aliyu’s administration which they referred to as fraudulent.


According to Abubakar Bello, there are several transactions made under the then governor’s administration which needs to be accounted for which were discovered by the financial management committee set up by his administration.
