Drivers allegedly knock down two police officers during stop-and-search in Lagos

Two police men on stop-and-search duties around Oshodi area of Lagos State, have allegedly been knocked down by drivers.

According to the Punch, the yet-to-be-identified drivers were flagged down by the officers at about 7:30 p.m. on Friday, while the officers were on patrol at 7/8 Bus Stop.

A source disclosed that the suspects, who were driving a Toyota Camry and a Lexus 350, sped up when the unformed men, Inspector Alabi Kayode and Inspector Edukpe Oronya, were standing on the road.

“But immediately they sighted the police, they increased the speed at which they were moving and knocked down two police men, Inspector Alabi Kayode and Inspector Edukpe Oronya,” the source said.

The source also said that Inspector Kayode sustained severe injuries on his head and left hand, while the second officer, Oronya, was “rolled over by the two vehicles.”

The Punch reports that the two unknown drivers allegedly tried to snatch the rifles with the officers after they had knocked them down.

However, the swift intervention of their colleagues was said to have saved the rifles from being stolen away by the daredevil car drivers.

It was gathered that the officers were immediately rushed to Divine Grace Hospital in Mafoluku–Oshodi, for medical attention, while an investigation is ongoing.

Efforts to reach the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, for confirmation of the incident were unsuccessful as at press time.
