Super Eagles defender, William Troost-EKong has called on soccer-loving Nigerians not to relent in their support for the team at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON.
Jose Peseiro’s side held the Nzalang Nacional of Equatorial Guinea to a 1-1 draw in their first game at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations on Sunday.
Despite the players’ not-too-impressive display, Troost-Ekong expressed gratitude to the fans and urged them to rally behind the team in the forthcoming games.
Speaking after the game, the Super Eagles vice captain said; “I just want to say thank you for the support for the guys that came out there.
”Of course, we’re disappointed; we feel the same way as you guys, we wanted to win today, but I think we have to look at the positives.
“We created a lot of chances, and on another day we would have won that game, and will be very motivated Thursday. Don’t give up on us.”
The Nigerian national team will face hosts Cote d’Ivoire at the Alassanne Quattara Stadium, Ebimpe, Abidjan by 5pm on Thursday.
