Crouch denies questioning Lookman for choosing Nigeria over England

Liverpool legend, Peter Crouch, has denied questioning Super Eagles forward, Ademola Lookman’s decision to play for Nigeria at senior level instead of England.

The former England international was one of the pundits who hailed Lookman following his performance in the UEFA Europa League final.

I feel pressure - Lookman admits

It may be recalled that the Nigerian striker scored a hat-trick to help his Serie A side, Atalanta win their first-ever European trophy. Lookman was born in England to Nigerian parents.

Reports claimed that Crouch questioned the 26-year-old player’s decision to represent the African giants, and noted that he missed a privileged opportunity to play for England.

“If Ademola Lookman had been patient, he would have played for England instead of Nigeria,” he was quoted as saying.

But the 43-year-oldformer Liverpool striker has taken to Twitter (X) to deny making such statements about the Atalanta forward.

Crouch responded to an article; “This is mad. I didn’t say this. Why would I? I said he’s been around various clubs, worked hard and now he’s performing for Atalanta. Didn’t mention Nigeria once”.
