Court sentences hair stylist to prison for stealing N1million wine

An Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos has sentenced a 41-year-old hair stylist, Yusuf Adeola, to three months in prison for stealing bottles of wine valued at N1 million.

Magistrate O. A. Daodu handed down the sentence on Friday after the court reviewed the facts of the case, and stated that it is without an option of fine.

The hair stylist, who resides at Ikota in Ajah, Lagos State, had pleaded guilty to the charges following his arraignment on January 23 by the police.

The prosecutor, Insp Sunday Bassey, said the hair stylist stole bottles of wine on January 4 at Kofa Hartley Supermarket located at Ogudu. Bassey said that the defendant had, for sometime, been stealing wine from the supermarket.

He said; “He was caught on a Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) camera stealing bottles of wine valued at N600,000. He stole another one worth N400,000 on a different day.

“A security guard working for Shepherd Hill Security Company and attached to the supermarket caught the defendant, using the CCTV footage, after he was accused of negligence of duty.

“The defendant came again on Jan. 4 to steal more bottles of wine but was apprehended. He confessed to stealing Martell Wine sometime in November and selling it to a woman in Apogbon Market on Lagos island for N500,000”.
