Community members reportedly kill bandit, recover stolen livestock

Residents of Giyawa community in Goronyo Local Government Area of Sokoto State took the laws into their hands by killing a suspected bandit on Sunday.

Daily Post reports that the community resisted some bandits from Samana village in Binji Local Government Area, that were passing through their village on their way to their Goronyo forest hideout.

According to a source, about 150 rustled livestock were also recovered from the criminals. This came few days after four persons were said to have been killed, 18 others abducted and many livestock rustled in Giyawa.

The acting spokesperson of the Sokoto State Police Command, ASP Ahmad Rufa’i, could not be reached for comment at the time of filing this report.

It was reported earlier that gunmen suspected to be bandits abducted a police officer serving in Toro Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

It was gathered that the incident happened on Friday night, September 15 and it threw Toro town into confusion.

This comes a few hours after security agencies secured the release of 33 kidnap victims in Alkaleri LGA of Bauchi.

According to sources, the armed men fired sporadic gunshots, scaring residents before abducting a yet-to-be identified Assistant Superintendent of Police, ASP.

The activities of kidnappers has affected economic activities in Toro LGA as residents are afraid of going about their businesses for fear of being kidnapped.
