Bayer Leverkusen’s Victor Boniface seeks donations after being ruled out of AFCON over injury

Bayer Leverkusen striker, Victor Boniface has solicited for donations from the public after his injury made him miss out on playing for Nigeria at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

The 23-year-old who sustained a groin injury during one of the team’s training sessions in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates had to withdraw from the squad for AFCON.

The forward missed Super Eagles friendlies against Al Gharib and Guinea earlier this month, but he is still in high spirits.

In a tweet on Wednesday, while reacting to a video shared on Leverkusen’s official page, Boniface hinted that he had gotten tired of the well-wishing comments.

He then playfully asked people to send recovery funds to him instead of the usual ‘Get well soon’ messages he’s been getting. It may be recalled that he made his debut for the Super Eagles against Sao Tome and Principe in September 2023.

“Them one use get well soon kill. Me Make una send funds ooo,” Boniface tweeted.

The Bayer Leverkusen star admitted that it was terrible for him to miss the 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) currently going on in Ivory Coast.

This came after the club disclosed that had undergone a successful operation while also ruling him out of competitive football action for the next three months.

Boniface said; “When I heard the news, it was difficult. It was terrible for me to miss out on the 2023 African Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast and also some games for Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga,” he said.

“But then, that is football and we expect things like this, however, it is just for me to remember to stay focused and come back to playing competitive football once again.”
