Atletico Madrid star, Omorodion reveals he’s not interested in playing for Nigeria

Nigerian born Atletico Madrid forward, Samuel Omorodion has said he is focused on representing Spain at the national level.

The 19-year-old striker, who is currently on loan at Alaves, was born in Spain to Nigerian parents. He has represented Spain at the U-19 and U-21 levels and is eligible to represent both countries.

Omorodion said he is not thinking about Nigeria because his intention is to play for the former European champions.

“Spain has given me the opportunity and I am very grateful for it. I don’t think about Nigeria. My goal is to debut with the senior side and have my career in Spain,” he said.

Bayer Leverkusen winger, Nathan Tella has revealed that his family is excited and eager to see him play for the Super Eagles.

The 24-year-old was born in England to Nigerian parents and despite being eligible to play for the Three Lions, he opted to represent Nigeria at world tournaments.

Super Eagles coach, Jose Peseiro handed Tella his maiden invitation for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Zimbabwe.

In a chat with BBC Sport Africa, the graduate of Arsenal Academy revealed that his family can’t wait to watch him on the field when he eventually makes his debut for Nigeria.

Tella said; “It’s always been about representing Nigeria. My family will be over the moon to watch me fulfil that dream.

“I am proud of my British and Nigerian sides and lucky to have both backgrounds. Of course, we have both worlds, but ours is a proper Nigerian home [with] culture, food and tradition.”
