Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi state has stated that he is still in the race for the presidency despite the decision by governors of the All Progressives Congress to zone its presidential ticket to the South.
Bello made this known to State House Correspondents shortly after meeting President Muhammadu Buhari at the State House, Abuja.
The governor’s visit is coming hours after 13 APC governors from the north met president Buhari to affirm their resolution on a southern candidate.
Meanwhile, Plateau governor, Simon Lalong in an interview on Channels TV said five aspirants have been presented to Buhari, and they include; Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, former Lagos State Governor, Bola Tinubu, Governors Fayemi Kayode of Ekiti State, Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State and former transport minister, Rotimi Amaechi.
According to Bello, he met with the president at Aso Villa to explain why he excused himself from a meeting with the governors on Monday, June 6, 2022.
He further said that his colleagues did not consult him before taking their decision to present five aspirants.
On whether he would accept a consensus candidate, Bello said he will only step down if the president asks him.
