Amotekun arrests ex-convict for stealing from mosque in Osun

Operatives of Osun Amotekun Corps in Isale Osun Area of Osogbo, Osun State, have arrested an ex-convict, Tajudeen Ridwan, for allegedly stealing electronic appliances in a mosque.

A statement by spokesperson for Amotekun Corps in Osun on Friday, Idowu Yusuf said Ridwan, 30, was released from a custodial centre in March after serving a four-year jail term following his conviction for offences bordering on stealing.

The suspect was reportedly caught in the act by some worshippers before the regional security outfit was contacted.

Commander of Osun Amotekun, Corps, Brig. Gen. Bashir Adewinmbi (retd.), said that the suspect disguised as a worshipper and used the opportunity to steal an amplifier being used to call worshippers to prayers.

He said; “He was caught after morning prayer thinking that all the worshippers had left the mosque, but luck ran against him when some worshippers saw him packing the electronic musical amplifier inside a bag.

“The attention of Amotekun Osogbo Command was called to the act and the operatives swung into action immediately and apprehended the person with felony convictions on the spot.

“Upon preliminary investigation, he confessed to being an ex-convict who just completed his four-year jail term for the same act in March this year.”

Adewinbi said the 30-year-old suspect has been handed over to the police for further interrogation and prosecution.
