AFCON: I feel pressure – Lookman admits ahead of South Africa clash

Super Eagles forward, Ademola Lookman has admitted that he feels the pressure of playing for Nigeria as the weight of the team seems to be on his shoulder.

Lookman has an impressive outing so far at the ongoing 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, (AFCON) scoring three goals to take Super Eagles closer to the final.

Nigeria qualified for the semi-finals on Friday after beating Angola 1-0. Peseiro’s men will face Bafana Bafana of South Africa in the last four on Wednesday.

BBC Sport reports that despite Lookman’s form, the 26-year-old insisted it is not easy to deliver for the three-time African champions.

“I feel the pressure wearing this [Nigeria] shirt. Every single time I put on the jersey, that’s just what comes with being a Nigerian and playing for the country, so I’m proud to do that, to take that responsibility,” he said.

Meanwhile, in the same vein…

Head Coach of Nigeria’s Super Eagles, Jose Peseiro has suggested how his team can get to the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, (AFCON)

Peseiro outlined two things Super Eagles players need to do to ensure that they defeat whichever country they face in the semi-finals

He stated via Twitter (X) on Saturday night that the team must keep their feet on the ground and stay focused to sail through to the AFCON final.

“Our players were once again extraordinary. Many congratulations. We are in the semi-finals. Keep our feet on the ground; stay focused to conquer our place in the final,” the Portuguese tweeted.
