5. Dantata Family

The Dantata family is the family where Aliko Dangote who currently is the third richest man in Africa came from. In that family is other prominent personalities like Sanusi Dantata, Aminu Dantata, Chief Al-Hassan Dantata, Ahamdu Dantata and many others.

Chief Al-Hassan Dantata was a Northern Nigerian trader who trade in kola nuts and ground nuts, he was also a distributor of European goods He was one of the wealthiest men in West Africa. A legacy that spurred of Aliko Dangote success in business.

The Dantata’s company supplied large British trading companies with raw materials and also had business interests in the Gold Coast. At the time of his death, he was one of the wealthiest men in West Africa. This family has birthed many great businessmen in Nigeria’s, the most notable, Aliko Dangote, is the elder Dantata’s great-grandson.

4. Briggs Family

The Briggs Family is one of the wealthiest in the heart of the oil-rich Niger Delta. Chief O.B Lulu-Briggs is one of the wealthiest Nigerians alive. He is the founder of Moni Pulo Limited (MPL) which is a private indigenous oil and gas exploration country and this make him one of the richest men in the country.

The Company is more popular for the efficacy exhibited in its international standard operations. Moni Pulo Limited was awarded its first oil block in 1992 when the Nigerian president at the time, Ibrahim Babangida, was encouraging indigenous participation in the upstream sector of the oil and gas industry.

His wife, Mrs. Seinye Lulu-Briggs currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer of Racheal Hotels Limited. Another notable personality from this family is Chief Dumo Lulu Briggs, who was the pioneer, Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer at Moni Pulo Limited from 1995 to 2002. He is a lawyer.

MPL currently has oil blocks in Ondo state, Abia and Akwa-Ibom state. Its flagship project, OML 114, produces 10,000 barrels per day.

3.  Saraki Family

The Saraki family are known for their political power and they are also one of the richest families in the country with Bukola Saraki as the most prominent member of the family. He served as Governor of Kwara for two terms before joining the Senate. He is the current Senate president of the Federal Republic

Other prominent members of this family are Late Olusola Saraki, Bukola Saraki, and Gbemisola Saraki. Olusola Saraki was a senator of the Second Republic and also the chairman of the defunct Societe General Bank.

Due to their political influence presence in politics and public service, the family has managed to keep most of its financial dealings private.

2. Tinubu Family

The important prominent personality from this family is Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who was a former governor of Lagos State. Another person is his wife. Oluremi who is a senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria currently.

The Tinubu family is a popular family in Lagos state. His mother, Chief Abibatu Mogaji by history was a wealthy Lagos trader and businesswomen as well as one of the most influential community leaders. Before her death in 2013, she was the President-General of the Association of Nigerian Market Men and Women.

Tinubu is believed to have invested in most of Lagos’ prime real estate, and has been charged and accused of money laundry.

1. Ibru Family

The Ibru Organization which was established in 1956. The organization deals with diversified business ideas including agriculture, aviation, banking etc and has maintained one of the largest conglomerates with over 10,000 employees.

Over time, Ibru expanded his business to vehicle transportation, distribution, brewing, construction, petroleum distribution and also fruit growing. The organization also diversified its business interests which include shipping, agriculture, aviation, banking as well as oil and gas.

The founder of the Ibru Organization is Michael Ibru.  In 1957, Ibru began distributing frozen fish in Nigeria; he was a pioneer in this business. He would later form the Ibru Sea Foods, a company through which he imported frozen fish and sold them using the back of truck. The business grew and he was able to partner with a prominent Japanese firm.

Other prominent members of the Ibru family are Felix Ibru, Olorogun Oskar Ibru, Cecilia Ibru, and Oboden Ibru.

Alex Ibru is the chairman of Rutam Motors and he was an ex-minister of Internal Affairs between 1993 and 1995. Felix Ibru was a former governor of Delta State. Cecilia was the former Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Oceanic Bank.
