25-year-old man arrested for alleged kidnap lavishes N470k share on new clothes

A 25-year-old kidnap suspect, Gaiya Usman has allegedly spent his own share of N470,000 out of N8 million ransom on fresh set of clothes.

He was arrested after a man-hunt by police officers of the Adamawa state police command for alleged involvement in kidnapping.

The state Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje said on Monday that Usman is the only one arrested so far out of a five-man gang suspected to have participated in three abductions .

Nguroje said the suspect, who hails from Tambo in Girei LGA, along with four others now at large, on separate occasions kidnapped three people and collected the total of 8 million naira ransom.

According to the Police spokesperson, the Commissioner of Police, CP Afolabi Babatola, had ordered the commander of the state Crack Squad to take over the investigation, fish out the fleeing suspects and ensure the prosecution of all those involved in the incidents.

“The suspect said that he was given N470,000 only out of eight million they realized from the families of their victims, explaining that he had used his proceeds and bought clothes,” Nguroje said.

The Nigeria Police has revealed that it arrested a serial kidnapper identified as Auwal Abdullahi in Kaduna state.

He was nabbed on September 12, 2023 in Garu village, Soba LGA of the state and paraded with his gang members at the Force headquarters on Friday, October 13.

Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi said the suspect confessed his involvement in the kidnapping of some students of Federal Government College (FGC), Yauri, Kebbi state.

According to Adejobi, in the course of investigation into the alleged kidnapper, the police arrested one Abubakar Abdulahi, an uncle and colleague of Abdullahi, in Zaria.

Speaking during the parade, Abdullahi gave thanks to God for equipping the police to apprehend him and his cohorts.

“He (Abubakar) came to me and brought money to enable me to travel and join the gang in the forest. I thank God that we have been caught and brought here. I have made N40,000 before from kidnapping. Our leaders do collect the ransom,” he said.
