24-year-old barber bags 24 months imprisonment for home robbery

A Lugbe Grade 1 Area Court in the Federal Capital Territory, has sentenced a 24-year-old man, Godwin Joseph to 24 months imprisonment, for housebreaking and stealing.

Joseph, who is a barber at Area 1 garage Garki, Abuja was arraigned on charges of criminal trespass, housebreaking, and theft. The defendant pleaded guilty but begged for leniency.

The prosecutor, Olisaemeka Okeke informed the court that the complainant, Johnson Ewa arrested and brought the convicts to Durumi Police Station on January 7.

Okeke said that on the same date at about 3am while the complainant was asleep in his house, the convict smartly broke in through the window and stole his property.

He said the defendant stole two cell phones valued at N240,000, two phones valued at N50,000, a laptop at N300,000, a smart wristwatch valued yet unknown, and N200,000 cash.

The prosecutor said in the process of escaping, the complainant caught the convict and brought him to the station for investigation.

According to Okeke, during investigation, the convict confessed to the police that he committed the crime which contravenes sections 348, 411, and 287 of the Penal Code.

Delivering judgment, the Judge, Aliyu Kagarko, convicted Joseph and gave him an option to pay a fine of N60,000. He also warned the convict to desist from committing crimes in the future.
