2023 Election: N300bn budget should’ve been used to fix schools, hospitals – Singer, Simi

Popular Nigerian songstress, Simisola Kosoko, professionally known as Simi has said that the over N300 billion budget allocated to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC for the conduct of the 2023 general elections would have served a better purpose if it were invested in education and health sectors.

She stated this on the heels of the controversial election widely marred by violence, voter suppression, rigging and vote buying.

Simi, in a post on Twitter said it would have been better if the billions used for the presidential and governorship elections were channeled to fixing schools and hospitals.

The Joromi crooner expressed utmost displeasure over the elections conducted by INEC as she said that the electoral body could have just simply saved resources and time by pointing to the candidate of their choice.

She wrote; “300 billion naira budget for this joke of an election @inecnigeria you might have as well given them back the money to fix some hospitals and schools and just used finger to point at the people you wanted to select.

“The blatant rigging and nobody in power addressed it. Lol. Giant problem of Africa.

“Anybody that saw the disenfranchisement and didn’t condemn it better keep their prayers for Nigeria. She doesn’t need prayers from people like you.”

Similarly, singer Folarin ‘Falz’ Falana called out the Nigerian Police for failing to protect the people during the 2023 general elections.

His emphasis was on the attack on voters in Lagos state by thugs loyal to the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the state.

The 2023 Lagos State gubernatorial election was marred by a high level of violence and intimidation, many of which were carried out right in front of the security personnel.

Trending footages captured police officers watching the chaos or actively aiding in the disenfranchisement of many voters.

In reaction to the chaos, Falz tweeted: “I am so livid. This level of fuckery is unbelievable! A couple of Arise TV journalists were very badly beaten up at my polling unit. OF COURSE, in the presence of Police officers!”

“On the basis of which logic do you conclude that it’s okay to use force to get people to ‘vote’ for you ? All you supporters and enablers of this fxxkery are even more despicable. You know better, but you are EVIL at heart. You are VILE!”
