17-yr-old boy arrested for faking his kidnap to get N2m from parents

The Delta State Police Command has disclosed that a teenager, Ade Segun was arrested for planning his own kidnap alongside two of his friends in Warri.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, in a series of tweets on Friday, said the suspect, demanded the sum of N2million from his parents as ransom.

Edafe identified the 17-year-old suspect’s accomplices as Precious and Nonso.

He explained that Precious and Nonso called Ade’s parent, and demanded the ransom to free their supposedly kidnapped son.

The police explained that his parents reported at the police station in Warri, where a female police officer played along, pretending to pay the ransom money.

When the undercover policemen got to the location, they laid ambush waiting for any of them to show.

Precious came to pick the money and he was arrested. He took the police officers to the hideout where Ade and Nonso were hiding. The duo were consequently arrested and the purported victim confessed that it was all planned.

Edafe said; “The suspect, Ade Segun, planned his own kidnapped alongside two of his friends, Precious and Nonso, called Ade’s parents, and demanded the sum of N2,000,000.
