At least fourteen Nigerian politicians in Zamfara state have lost their lives to a fatal road accident along Gusau – Zaria road, with many others injured.
Some politicians in the state had gone to receive the Governor at the border between Zamfara and Katsina States on Wednesday, while the other politicians were allegedly rushing to meet up with the state Governor’s convoy when they collided with a BUA cement trailer.
According to the report, 14 of the politicians died on the spot, while several others sustained various degrees of injuries in the accident.
When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Mohammed Shehu, confirmed the incident, saying that those who sustained injuries have been taken to the hospital and responding fine to treatment.
However, Governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle has condoled the families of all the deceased persons who lost their lives in the accident.
The Governor ordered a three-day mourning in honour of the departed souls, saying that all flags should fly at half-mast.

The deceased have since been accorded befitting burials attended by hundreds of people.
