10 ways to get rid of under eye puffiness and dark circle



Dark circles are a common problem with both genders and all age groups typically above 16 years. Dark under-eye circles are a clear indicator that you haven’t been getting enough rest.

Treatment for dark eye circles depends on the underlying cause. However, there are some home remedies that can help manage this condition. Some of the more common methods include:

10. Milk

Milk has a lightening effect on skin that can be very helpful when dealing with dark circles under your eyes, it also help in smoothing wrinkles, cleansing pores and restoring the skin. Plenty of over-the-counter products contain lactic acid, making milk an affordable and efficient solution for dark circles. Soak two cotton balls in cold milk and place them under your eyes for a natural remedy. Leave it to dry for about 30 minutes.

9. Cucumbers

Using cucumber slices on your eyes is a treatment. Other than being a tasty snack, cucumbers are also a perfect solution for dark circles. Cucumbers contain vitamin K, a fat-soluble that increases blood circulation and reduces clotting.  Just place a thin slice of cucumber over each of your closed eyelids, and leave them there for at least 15 minutes. This can get the blood pumping as well as erase any redness.

8. Egg and Lemon

Egg has a tightening effect on skin, and lemon juice has lightening and brightening effects. When combined, they make a great revitalizing eye treatment! Mix one egg white with 3-5 drops of lemon juice. Soak two cotton balls in the egg and lemon mixture, then squeeze out any excess liquid. Place the damp cotton balls over your eyes and rest for about 10 minutes. Wash the residue off with warm water, then rinse clean with cold water.

Tomatoes contain lycopene, it’s also an antioxidant that reduces inflammation and stops blood from clotting. It helps protect against UV radiation, one of the causes of dark circles. Soak a few cotton balls in juice squeezed from a tomato and then gently dab the juice under your eyes, letting it sit before rinsing it off.

One orange contains about 70 milligrams of vitamin C. To treat dark circles, soak two cotton balls in orange juice directly from an orange, squeeze out any excess drops and rub the cotton balls under the eyes in the morning and before bed each night. Just avoid getting any drops directly in your eyes.

5. Potatoes

Starchy potatoes also have anti-inflammatory properties that can help get rid of under-eye bags. Potatoes contain vitamin C, an antioxidant. The antioxidants repair damaged skin cells and reduce the skin’s melanin production, one of the causes of dark spots. Peel and grate a raw potato and pound it. Apply it to your eyes and leave on for 15 minutes.

Tea bags contains tannins that can be very effective for reducing swelling and dark circles. Steep two tea bags in hot water and place them in the refrigerator until they are slightly chilled. Drain the bags of any excess water and place them over your eyes and leave them there for about 15 minutes.

Vitamin C and citric acid are natural skin brighteners, and lemon juice is packed with both. Use cotton balls to apply the juice under each eye in the morning and before bed. But avoid getting too close to the eye because lemon juice can burn if direct contact is made.

Coconut oil contains fatty acids which help reduce inflammation and increase blood circulation. Massage coconut oil under each eye for 30 seconds before bedtime.

So putting in the extra effort to sleep the recommended seven to nine hours each night will leave you and your skin feeling and looking refreshed.
