Jigawa man allegedly poisons wife to inherit her wealth

A 40-year-old resident of Jigawa state, Habu Ibrahim has been arrested for allegedly plotting to kill his wife and poisoning her in order to inherit her wealth.

The Jigawa State police command disclosed that the unfortunate incident happened in Danadama village, Sule Tankarkar Local Government Area.

According to the State Police Commissioner, A T. Abdullahi, the suspect allegedly laced with poison, a drink and meat meant for his 35-year-old wife, Zakiya Uzairu so that he could claim her livestock, which comprises goats, sheep, and cows.

Abdullahi revealed that Ibrahim was apprehended on scene by detectives who swiftly swung into action upon receiving the report at the Sule Tankarkar Division.

The commissioner said the suspect was brought to the Divisional Police office in Sule Tankarkar for questioning where he confessed to the crime.

He also said the accused was later transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Dutse, the state capital, for further investigation.

Abdullahi said; “During the interrogation, the suspect willingly confessed to the crime, confirming the accuracy of the information provided to the police.

“He admitted to intending to kill his wife to gain possession of her livestock, which included goats, sheep, and cows. He said the wife narrowly escaped after she perceived the poison and presumed his plan”.
