Nigeria’s women basketball team has crashed out of the 2018 FIBA Women Championship after losing 71-40 to the United States of America (USA) in the quarter-finals game played on Friday, September 28.

The Nigerian team came into the encounter with three consecutive victories, so did the USA after three straight wins in the group encounters. Nigeria did put up a good fight against the reigning world champions, but came up short as they fell to their second defeat of the competition after a 86-68 loss to Australia in their opening game.

While this is the end of the road in the championship for Nigeria, USA will now advance to the semifinals of the competition where they will take on the winners of the other quarterfinal between France and Belgium. The Nigerian team had defeated Argentina and Greece to get to the quarter-final stage.
