Daniel Bwala is not my aide – Atiku

Presidential candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2023, Atiku Abubakar has distanced himself from Daniel Bwala, the former spokesperson for his presidential campaign organisation.

In a statement issued by his media office on Tuesday, Atiku clarified that the lawyer is not his aide as widely reported, noting that his association with him was limited to serving as a spokesperson.

The former vice president emphasised that Bwala was not, and has never been, his aide beyond this specific role.

According to the statement; “It is important that the media and the general public take corrective note of defining Mr Daniel Bwala as an aide to His Excellency Atiku Abubakar. Bwala offered his services and support to the Atiku/Okowa Presidential Campaign Organisation as a spokesperson – and it was a position he held during the last presidential campaign”.

CorrectNG recalls that Daniel Bwala earlier said he would accept an appointment from President Bola Tinubu if the offer were made.

He stated that though he would appreciate an appointment from Tinubu, he is not supporting the President because he is hoping for to get a government position.

The PDP Chieftain explained that adding value to the current APC-led administration has nothing to do with securing an appointment in government or not.

Bwala also clarified that despite his recent visit which generated controversy, President Tinubu has not promised him anything

He said; “If the president makes an offer of a position that I see that it will contribute to the development of his agenda, I will accept it.

“I will more than anything else appreciate it. It is not the appointment that I’m looking for to support him. I’m telling you eight years I supported Buhari, I was not a public official.

“You have to separate between those who do not have value and are cringing and crying for appointment and those who believe the value and what they contribute has nothing to do with whether you are appointed or not. But President Tinubu has not promised me anything”.
